moviez two nights in a row! what an exciting life i lead. last night i went to see the last station with a few friends. not surprisingly, the theater was packed with old people. we were probably the youngest in attendance last night. ahhh, reminds me of when i went to see atonement a few years ago. james mcavoy really knows how to draw in those seniors.
while delightful and touching, i didn’t think the last station was a fantastic movie. nevertheless, i enjoyed it. based on the biographical novel by jay parini, the film follows the last year of leo tolstoy’s life and his relationship with wife, sofya andreevna bers. to sit back and watch the exchanges between sofya (mirren) and tolstoy (plummer), is worth the watch alone. they were captivating and james mcavoy was charming as usual… but i thought he was charming even in that heaping pile of shit known as wanted.
after seeing a single man, i can’t say that the oscar should go to plummer. both actors are great, but between these two performances, plummer doesn’t hold a candle to firth.
