this week i went to the alamo drafthouse to see the the imaginarium of doctor parnassus. i thought the movie was blah. despite the fact that i typically do not like terry gilliam films, the trailer was so aesthetically pleasing that i couldn’t pass up a chance to see it in the theater. unfortunately, gilliam managed to make yet another visually stunning film that falls completely flat. as usual, it was impossible to feel anything for any of the poorly developed characters. overall, the story lacked substance and all the beautiful special effects in the world can’t save a half-assed script.
however, i will say that tom waits as the devil was amusing and i couldn’t take my eyes off of lily cole. she is such an interesting beauty.
